Frank Portone has been a professional musician for 37 years. After free lancing in Philadelphia for four years, he won the Principal Horn position in the Hong Kong Philharmonic. During his time in Hong Kong, Frank taught privately and at the Hong Kong Royal Academy of Music and the Hong Kong Catholic University. Frank was also active as a chamber musician and in the Hong Kong recording studios. In the latter role as recording musician, Frank played in over three hundred recording sessions in his three years in Hong Kong. In 1980, Frank won the national audition for the Principal Horn position in the Charlotte Symphony. He still holds that position. In 1981, Frank joined the Carolina Brass Quintet and the adjunct faculty of Davidson College. Besides teaching horn at Davidson college, Frank teaches privately at his home. He has also been very active as a chamber musician in Charlotte. Frank has been a horn soloist with the Charlotte Symphony on four occasions and has been a vocal soloist with the Charlotte Symphony and other orchestras around the country on many occasions.
